Work continues!
Observatory #3 Project is fully underway.
Lorenzo Shortt, an Eagle Scout has taken on the role as the project manager to construct a 15′ Dome Observatory on our site. It will be named after the donators daughters The Verileith Observatory. The Dome was donated by Scott Miller and the concrete was funded by a donation from member Lewis Cook. Members Bill Brown and Aaron Brown installed the electrical conduits. The boy scouts organized by Lorenzo, did earthwork just west of the existing concrete pads at Breezy Point Observatory to facilitate the expansion for the dome. The scouts then formed for new pads along with club members Jason Young, Bill Brown and Aaron Brown, and Rodney Waugh followed by the pouring and finishing 12 yards of concrete to also provide space to set up telescopes south of the observatory during star parties. A lot of work was completed by the scouts and club members so far.
The Project plan with milestones was executed for the Waugh-Haxton Observatory, Grant funds have been utilized for the work so far and a second observatory to house the Haxton telescope for club star parties and educational use. The Site Prep was completed for the new observatory to include trees and brush cleared along the access road to breezy point, gravel tailgated to provide the needed access for concrete and materials, and the concrete pads have been poured and stamped with a compass rose pointing true north. The electrical conduit was installed prior to pouring the pads. Thanks go out to Jason Young, Bill and Aaron Brown and Rodney Waugh for the work and coordination. The Primary and secondary mirrors for the Haxton scope were recoated and were then installed by Ed Conners. Thanks go out to Ed for transporting the mirrors down and back to Majestic Mirrors as well. Work on the focuser on the Haxton scope was completed by Member Robert Dean. The initial building contract was awarded to Stoltzfus for a star gazer shed. The colors were chosen and the floor layout was completed. completed.
